The Twisted Star is the powerful story of the disintegration of a German-Jewish family and the German Nation as a whole from the 1920's through the Nazi Holocaust. Having escaped the infamous death camp Treblinka, Heinrich Hartstein recounts the events that tore his and the lives of millions apart, writing the greater part of his chronicle while hiding in an underground chamber in Nazi-occupied Poland. It is there that he seeks answers to the questions: What made a seemingly civilized Germany the spawning ground for events too horrific to describe? Why did so many whose lives were in jeapordy hesitate to flee until it was too late? And where was God during the Holocaust?
